Kiradech Aphibarnrat proved that failing to prepare does not necessarily mean preparing to fail as he claimed victory at the World Super 6 in Perth.
The Thai was a late entrant to the event at Karrinyup Country Club and did not play any practice rounds, but on Sunday he came through the matchplay phase with a 2 and 1 win over James Nitties in the final.
Having been the last man to qualify for the final day of action after emerging from a tense play-off to reach the final 24, Aphibarnrat emerged unscathed from five rounds of match play to win his fourth European Tour title.
Ben Eccles, Yusaku Miyazato, Sean Crocker and Lucas Herbert were all brushed aside by the 28-year-old, before Australian Nitties surrendered the early advantage to become Aphibarnrat's final victim.

"It's just been an awesome week," he said. "I don't know how to explain but I'm so happy.
"I'm working so hard. The last few months I've been getting really close and finally I've done it.
"It means a lot. When you focus on something, you try this hard, then I kept finishing second and then I'm not giving up. I'm trying so hard until I get it.
"It's really tough to get in the last 24. It's been tough every single match that I play in.
"James is playing so good but he's just unlucky at the end."
An eagle on the par-four fourth matchplay hole, which followed a stunning drive that rolled to within a few feet of the pin, underlined the quality of Aphibarnrat's play as he recovered from falling behind on the opener.
The decisive moment came when Nitties missed a putt on the fifth hole – which is the 12th in normal play – and Aphibarnrat coolly rolled his in from 10 feet.
Herbert took third with a 3 and 1 triumph over Englishman Sam Horsfield.
