Yates brothers sign Mitchelton-Scott renewals

Simon and Adam Yates have signed two-year contract extensions with Mitchelton-Scott.

The British twins have committed their futures to Mitchelton-Scott despite "significant interest from other outfits", according to the team.

The deals were announced on a rest day at the Tour de France on Monday, with Adam 30th and just under 40 minutes off the pace.

Simon won three stages at this year's Giro d'Italia and led the general classification before falling away late on as Chris Froome triumphed.

He said: "I'm really pleased to stay with Mitchelton-Scott for another two seasons. As I have said all along, this was never a decision about money, this is about winning bike races.

"This team has believed in us from the beginning and given us opportunities to ride as leaders in key races from a young age.

"We've had clear ambitions together from the beginning and we have achieved a lot, but we are all hungry for more. I believe more than ever we can podium or win a Grand Tour."

Adam, fourth at the 2016 Tour, added: "It's the best option, not just for me but for Simon.

"We've been with the team from the beginning, we've had great success and the team has supported us every step of the way so there's no reason to change and we are both really happy to stay."
